So, the age old question of what, why, who, where, and when for save the date cards can easily be explained. What is a save the date card? Simply, it is a card that is mailed to your guests informing them of a major event (wedding, Bar or Bat Mitzvah, for example) that is going to take place in the future. Why should you send save the dates? Send a save the date to anyone you want to be at your event; especially if someone has to travel. You are giving your guests advance notice. Who should get a save the date? Although what and why answer the who, not everyone needs a save the date. A save the date card should be for your guests that you really want to be there. The where? On the save the date, you should have your name, the date, and where the event will take place. It does not have to be specific. A city and state is fine. And finally, when should the save the date be mailed? A save the date should be mailed to your guests 9 to 12 months before the event.
So, take into consideration the following. If you are having a destination wedding, and your guests are going to travel, and they will probably need to spend the night in a hotel, it is a great idea to send save the dates. If you are having a small, hometown wedding and people are not travelling and no one needs to spend the night in a hotel, you can certainly send them but it is not necessary. Word of mouth is a great way to get the information across. Remember, not everyone needs a save the date. Send them to your family and close friends. Without being too rude, you don’t have to send them to co-workers . Who knows where you will be in a year. They may not be there anymore and the only reason why you wanted to include them was because they were a co-worker. Anyone who receives a save the date, should receive an invitation.
A Small Creation has many offering for save the dates. You can include pictures, magnets, scratch-offs and more. Have fun with them. They do not have to coordinate with the wedding. I would be happy to help you and show you unique save the dates.
Happy Celebrating!
